This 1954 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe convertible is one of 724 examples built for the model year and is said to have been acquired in California in 1995 from its original owner by the current owner. Powered by a 331ci FirePower V8 linked with a two-speed automatic transmission, the car is finished in black with a tan soft top over black and red vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a transmission cooler, wheel covers, whitewall tires, dual exhaust, power steering, and an AM radio. The wiring was repaired, the water pump was replaced, and the radiator was flushed in early 2024. This New Yorker Deluxe convertible is now offered in California by the seller on behalf of the current owner with spare parts and a Montana title.
The car was repainted black under previous ownership, and the tan convertible top was reupholstered in 1998 and has a plastic rear window. Features include a hood ornament, chrome bumpers and trim, dual side mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. The paint was resealed with a clear coat in preparation for the sale, and the engine bay was repainted. Some of the trim was screwed into place under prior ownership, and imperfections pictured in the gallery below include chips in the paint, damage to the grille, tarnishing and corrosion on the bumpers, tears in the convertible top, and broken reverse-light lenses.
Steel 15″ wheels wear styled covers and are mounted with aged whitewall tires.
The cabin features front and rear bench seats that reportedly were retrimmed in red and black vinyl upholstery in 1998 along with the color-coordinated door and side panels. An AM radio is stationed at the center of the dashboard. Interior blemishes are pictured in the gallery, and the blower motor has been removed.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, warning lights, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 26k miles, approximately 15k of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The 331ci FirePower Hemi V8 is fed by a four-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 235 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. The wiring is said to have been repaired in early 2024 by replacing some connections and insulation, and the water pump was replaced, the radiator was flushed, and the coolant and oil were changed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a two-speed PowerFlite automatic transmission, which was rebuilt in 1998 and has been augmented with an aftermarket transmission cooler, per the seller. An undercoating has been applied. Corrosion is visible on underbody components.
An assortment of spare and removed parts will accompany the vehicle along with a set of black California license plates.
The car is titled under the number C54188815, which is found on the engine block pictured above. The chassis number shown in the photo gallery—69006949—is consistent with Chrysler’s numbering conventions for a 1954 New Yorker DeLuxe.
The Montana title carries a “Not Actual” odometer notation.
