1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Race Car

This 1965 Chevrolet Corvette convertible is said to have been modified for racing when new and was driven in various Southern California competitions until the 1980s. The car was later purchased by Terry Gough circa 2000 and refurbished before being used in vintage racing events over the course of more than a decade of ownership. It was purchased by the current owner in 2012, and subsequently won historic races in its group at Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca in 2014 and 2016. Power comes from a 327ci V8 mated to a Super T-10 four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, and additional performance equipment includes a Holley carburetor, an Accusump accumulator, Hooker headers, a reinforced steering box, a VBP composite rear monospring, American Racing 15” alloy wheels, and four-wheel disc brakes with a lever-style brake proportioning valve. Finished in white with blue stripes, the fiberglass body has been smoothed and outfitted with a Stinger-style hood and an acrylic wind deflector. A roll cage protects the cockpit, which features black bucket seats, a Simpson harness, a shift light, and a fire suppression system. This C2 Corvette was last raced in 2019 and is now offered in California on dealer consignment with an extra engine, additional wheels, a collection of spare parts, logbooks, partial service records, and a bill of sale.

The fiberglass body was modified and smoothed before its most recent repaint in white with blue stripes and number graphics. Black lines were painted on the front end to mimic the appearance of concealed headlight units, which have been removed. The windshield was also removed, and a low-profile acrylic deflector was installed. A blue roll cage was added, and other details include a Stinger-style hood, a chin spoiler, brake cooling ducts, chrome side mirrors, and central exhaust outlets. A crack on the tail panel is covered with adhesive tape, and paint chips and crazing are shown up close in the gallery.

American Racing 15” alloy wheels have blue-painted centers and are mounted with 6.00” Goodyear Blue Streak tires. The steering box has been reinforced with anti-flex trunnions, and a VBP composite monospring has been fitted to the rear suspension. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with a dual-circuit master cylinder and ventilated discs all around.
