15k-Mile 2.0L-Powered 1981 Volkswagen Jetta 2-Door 5-Speed

This 1981 Volkswagen Jetta coupe was modified in the 1980s and 90s by a prior owner, who reportedly used the European Jetta GTi as inspiration. A 2.0-liter Audi 3A block was mated to a solid-lifter cylinder head and a G-grind camshaft, and it was paired with a Rabbit GTI five-speed manual transaxle. Additional modifications include a Leistritz exhaust system, H&R coilovers, 15″ BBS RM wheels, and 16V brake components in addition to European bumpers, Hella horns, König front seats, and a MOMO steering wheel. Finished in Mexico Beige over a tan and brown interior, the car is further equipped with a sunroof, a power antenna, and an Audiobahn cassette stereo. Previously registered in California, the vehicle was purchased by its current owner in 2003 and relocated to Washington State. The timing belt was replaced in 2021, and the oil was changed in preparation for the sale. Showing 15k miles, this Jetta is now offered on dealer consignment in Oregon with parts and service records, spare parts, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Washington title.

The 2.0-liter inline-four was assembled in 1988-89 using a replacement Audi 80 3A block, Volkswagen JH solid-lifter cylinder head, and G-grind camshaft. An ABD Racing Big-Bore intake system, a Setrab 13-row oil cooler, a dual downpipe, and a Leistritz no-catalyst exhaust system have been installed, as have braided stainless-steel lines, a Neuspeed strut-tower brace, and chrome-plated valve and belt covers. The timing belt was replaced in 2021, and the oil was most recently changed in May 2024. Cylinder compression was measured at that time, and the results can be viewed in the gallery.
