This 1996 Land Rover Defender 90 is a left-hand-drive example that was first delivered in Italy where it is said to have been used as a Carabinieri police vehicle. Acquired by the seller in 2022, it was refurbished in the UK in 2023 before being imported to the US in 2024. Work is said to have included repainting the body in green, overhauling the 2.0-liter MPi inline-four, and installing a reconditioned five-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case. Terrafirma suspension components, four-wheel disc brakes, and replacement leather-trimmed seats have been fitted along with a roll cage, a black soft top, a Puma-style hood, a NAS-style rear bumper, LED exterior lighting, and 16″ Sawtooth wheels. Other features include heated front seats, a touchscreen head unit, and Pioneer speakers. This Defender 90 is offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
The truck is said to have been disassembled, stripped, and refinished in its current shade of green during the refurbishment. A Safety Devices roll cage and a black Exmoor Trim soft top have been installed along with a Puma-style hood, a NAS-style rear bumper, black wheel arch flares, and replacement front wings. Other details include LED headlights and fog lights as well as a short antenna, side steps, taillight guards, and body-color side mirrors.
The 16″ Sawtooth wheels are mounted with Maxxis Big Horn M/T 764 tires measuring 265/75, and a spare is mounted to a swing-out carrier at the rear of the truck. A Terrafirma steering stabilizer and shocks are installed, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with slotted rotors. The seller notes that the steering box, wheel bearings, brake calipers, and suspension bushings were replaced during the refurbishment.
The cabin has been overhauled with replacement front bucket seats and four inward-facing jumps seats trimmed in black leather Exmoor Trim upholstery. Other interior features include a center console, front-seat heating, a touchscreen head unit, and Pioneer speakers. The floors were repainted during the refurbishment.
The aftermarket steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 300 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.0L MPi inline-four features dual overhead camshafts and was reportedly overhauled as part of the refurbishment. The seller notes that the ECU has also been overhauled and the timing belt, throttle body, alternator, and starter motor have been replaced.
Power is routed to all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and a locking center differential. The transmission and transfer case are said to be reconditioned units that were installed during the refurbishment. According to the seller, additional work included repainting the underside, overhauling the axles, and replacing the front driveshaft and exhaust system.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors, identification numbers, and a build date in November 1996.
