2.4L-Powered 1966 Marcos 1800 GT Race Car

This 1966 Marcos 1800 GT is a right-hand-drive example that was imported from the UK to the US when new and acquired by the seller in 1997. The car was subsequently modified for use in vintage racing, achieving multiple podium finishes in more than 60 races along the West Coast since 2010. Power comes from a replacement 2.4-liter Volvo inline-four equipped with dual Weber 45 DCOE carburetors, and the engine is backed by a four-speed manual transmission. The fiberglass body is finished in red and mounted to a tubular steel chassis that features Koni adjustable coilovers and front disc brakes, while the cabin has been outfitted with a roll cage, Moto-Lita steering wheel, fire suppression system, and Smiths instrumentation. Additional equipment includes Panasport 13” wheels, an Accusump oil pressure regulator, a fuel cell, and stainless-steel exhaust headers. This Marcos is now offered at no reserve with logbooks and medals as well as initial purchase documents, refurbishment records, historical photos, literature, and a California title in the seller’s name.

In 2015 the sunroof was removed, fiberglass was used to fill the opening, and repairs were made to the body before the car was repainted in red with white numerals. An external battery cutoff switch and tow hooks have been added, and other exterior details include covered quadruple headlights, black front bumperettes, rear window straps, and a single exhaust outlet.

The car rides on a tubular steel chassis and is equipped with an independent front suspension, a four-link rear end, a Panhard bar, four-wheel Koni adjustable coilovers, and front disc brakes. The 13” Panasport wheels are mounted with a mixed set of Hoosier racing tires.

The right-hand-drive cabin is protected by a roll bar, and the fixed-back racing seats were retrimmed under current ownership in black vinyl that extends to the dashboard, center console, parcel shelf, and door panels. The headliner and carpets were also replaced. A knob on the right side of the dash adjusts the position of the pedal set, and a fire suppression system has been added along with toggle switches and red racing harnesses.

The Moto-Lita steering wheel sits ahead of a shift light and Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer and a clocked tachometer, while gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, oil temperature, and alternator output are located at the top of the center stack. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 39k miles, though the seller notes that the reading is inaccurate and total mileage is unknown. A Honeywell Quartz hour meter shows 101 hours.

The most recent service was performed at Terry Tinney Performance Motors of Livermore, California, and the car was last raced in July 2022.
