LS3-Powered 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

This 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 was acquired by the seller in 2020 and subsequently modified and refurbished over the next three years by Gizmo’s Custom Car Shop in Cedar, Minnesota, including the installation of a 6.2 LS3 V8, a 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission, and an Atlas dual-range transfer case with twin-stick shifters. Dynatrac front and rear axles with TrueTrac limited-slip differentials were also installed, along with four-wheel Brembo disc brakes, coilover shocks, and front and rear sway bars. The truck was repainted gray with a white removable hardtop, and the interior features power-adjustable heated and cooled Recaro front seat, a leather-wrapped roll cage, Dakota Digital gauges, and a touchscreen Pioneer stereo. Additional modifications include a Holley Terminator electronic fuel injection system, LED lighting, custom chromoly bumpers, a Warn winch, power-retractable side steps, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and 18″ wheels with 33″ tires. This modified FJ40 is now offered with a clean Minnesota title in the seller’s name.

The truck was repainted gray during the build, and equipment includes a removable white hardtop, custom chromoly bumpers with integrated LED lighting and shackles, a Warn winch, Amp Research power-retractable side steps, fender-mounted turn signals, tow hooks, and a receiver hitch.

Black-finished aftermarket 18″ wheels wear 265/70 Nitto Ridge Grappler tires, and the front axle is equipped with manually locking hubs. Braking is handled by six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo GT-S calipers over drilled rotors linked with a Baer hydraulic master cylinder. The suspension features front and rear three-link setups with heavy-duty sway bars in addition to Arizona Desert Shocks coilovers with remote reservoirs.

The interior was fitted with power-adjustable heated and cooled Recaro front seats and inward-facing jump seats that were reupholstered in tan leather with diamond-pattern stitching, and matching upholstery extends to the door panels, dashboard. The chromoly roll cage features a matching leather cover which was stitched by hand. Gray carpets line the floors, and additional amenities include a center console with cupholders and a touchscreen Pioneer stereo with Bluetooth.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel sits on an Ididit column and frames Dakota Digital gauges including a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and instrumentation for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and voltage. The digital odometer indicates 171 miles, and total chassis mileage is unknown.

The 6.2-liter LS3 V8 was installed during the build and is equipped with Holley Terminator electronic fuel injection and engine management. Additional equipment includes a stainless steel fuel tank with an in-tank Holley fuel pump and filter as well as a 2.5″ ceramic-coated stainless steel exhaust system with headers.

Power is delivered to the rear or all four wheels through a GM 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission, an Atlas dual-range transfer case with twin-stick shifters, and Dynatrac Dana 60 axles with 4.10:1 gearing and TrueTrac differentials.
