This 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa remained registered in California until it was acquired by the current owner in 2018, and subsequent work is said to have included a repaint in white, reupholstering the power-adjustable sport seats in black leather, resealing the engine, and the installation of a replacement clutch. The car was optioned with the US-spec M491 “Turbo Look” package, and it is powered by a 3.2L flat-six paired with a 915 five-speed manual transaxle. Additional equipment includes 16″ Fuchs-style wheels, a removable roof panel, a “tea tray” rear spoiler, fog lights, cruise control, air conditioning, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo. The car was offered on BaT in December 2021, and subsequent work is said to have included replacing the rear wheel bearings and brake components. This Carrera 3.2 is now offered on dealer consignment in California with a clean Carfax report and a Florida title.
The M491 option was first introduced in 1984 and features front and rear spoilers from the contemporary 911 Turbo as well as wider front and rear fenders. The car is said to have been repainted in the factory shade of Grand Prix White in 2018. A replacement front spoiler and rear valance are said to have been installed, and additional exterior details consist of a black removable targa roof panel, a replacement windshield, rear sone guards, European-specification taillight lenses, and heated power-adjustable side mirrors.
The 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels were reportedly refinished in 2018 and are mounted with older 205/55 Pirelli P7 front tires and 245/45 Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires out back. The M491 package included Turbo-specification brakes, anti-roll bars, trailing arms, and torsion bars. The power-adjustable front sport seats have been reupholstered in black leather and are joined by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include cruise control, air conditioning, power windows, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo. There is a tear in the left door cap, a blemish is present on the dashboard below the glovebox, and one of the rear speaker grilles is cracked.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a central tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline, a 170-mph speedometer, a clock, and combination gauges. The six-digit odometer shows 87k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership. The speedometer was repaired under current ownership by North Hollywood Speedometer, according to the selling dealer, and the total mileage is unknown. An area of adhesive residue is present on the steering wheel.
The 3.2L flat-six was factory rated at 200 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. An engine-out service in 2021 is said to have included replacing seals and gaskets, cleaning the fuel system, and replacement of an intake valve spring and the timing chain tensioner. A front air conditioning condenser protection bar iwas installed, the fuel tank was reportedly re-coated, and the fuel lines and engine pad were replaced under current ownership, according to the selling dealer. The car most recently passed a California emissions test in August 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle. The clutch was reportedly replaced in 2018.
