1974 Ducati 750 Super Sport

This 1974 Ducati 750 Super Sport was built under previous ownership utilizing a production 750SS “green” frame, a re-stamped 748cc round-case L-twin, Dell’Orto PHM carburetors, Conti megaphone mufflers, Borrani alloy rims, triple disc brakes, Marzocchi suspension, and bodywork finished in silver with blue-green accents. Additional equipment includes a five-speed transmission, a desmodromic valvetrain, bevel-driven camshafts, a half fairing, a solo racing seat, clip-on handlebars, rear-set foot controls, and a steering damper. The bike was acquired by its current owner out of storage at Ducati race bike builder Reno Leoni’s Bologna, Italy, shop in 2013 and subsequently imported to the US where it underwent a refurbishment. This 750SS is now offered in California by the seller on behalf of its current owner with a clean Illinois title in the owner’s name.

The first-year 750 Super Sport was modeled on Paul Smart’s 1972 Imola 200-winning race bike, and like all of the 401 factory-produced Green Frame bikes, this independently built example is finished in silver over a metallic blue-green frame which is stamped with the number 075029. Equipment includes a two-tone fairing with a clear windscreen, a 4.5-gallon fuel tank, a black vinyl racing seat with a rear cowl, rear-set foot controls, and a center stand.

Borrani 18″ alloy rims are mounted with Dunlop Roadmaster TT100 tires. Suspension is handled by a 38mm Marzocchi fork with black sliders as well as preload-adjustable Marzocchi shocks mounted to the swingarm. Braking is provided by dual discs with Scarab calipers up front and a single disc with a Lockheed caliper at the rear. The front rotors are from a 1973 750SS, and the brake lines are braided stainless steel with black rubber tube sheathing.

Chrome clip-on handlebars equipped with a bar-end mirror and a Tommaselli Daytona 2C throttle are secured beneath a top triple clamp that accommodates the adjustment knob for a friction-plate damper in the steering stem. Instrumentation consists of a 250-km/h (155-mph) Smiths speedometer and a matching tachometer with an 8k-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows 29k kilometers (~18k miles), approximately 1k of which were ridden under current ownership.

The 748cc round-case L-twin features bevel-driven overhead camshafts, a desmodromic valvetrain, aluminum intake manifolds, Dell’Orto PHM40 carburetors with screened velocity stacks, and a chrome dual exhaust system with upswept Conti megaphone mufflers. Close-up photos that depict stampings on the pipes and mufflers can be viewed in the gallery. The bike has been stored sans battery and fuel since 2021, and the seller states that recommissioning work which includes changing the oil, checking the brake fluid, and replacing the battery, spark plugs, and tires should be carried out prior to riding.
