No Reserve: 1971 Citroen Mehari

This 1971 Citroën Méhari was refurbished and modified before the seller’s acquisition in 2022, and it is powered by a 602cc flat-twin. The plastic outer body panels were replaced with green units, the seats were re-trimmed in black vinyl, and a four-speed manual transaxle with inboard-mounted front disc brakes was installed. A hood-mounted spare tire was added along with a folding windshield, tubular bumpers and side rails, and Cibié Super Oscar driving lights. Other equipment includes a removable soft top and side curtains, a 123ignition module, a Solex carburetor, and 15” wheels. This Méhari is now offered at no reserve with a tow bar, an extra engine and spare parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The Méhari debuted in 1968 and features ABS plastic body panels riveted to a tubular steel supporting framework. This example was reportedly produced for the North American market, and the red tub was repainted in green before being fitted with European-specification replacement body panels. A Méhari 4×4-style hood with an integrated spare tire carrier was added along with a black brush guard, a tow-bar bracket, a tubular rear bumper, Cibié Super Oscar driving lights, doors, side rails, and rear mud flaps. The removable black soft top, side curtains, and B-pillars are shown in multiple configurations in the gallery. The seller notes that the folding windshield would contact the hood-mounted spare when lowered. The windshield wiper arms have been removed, the rear hood restraints are missing, and cracks in the bodywork and inconsistencies in the finish are visible.

Cream-finished 15” steel wheels are mounted with 135-series Michelin ZX tires, and a full-size spare is stored in the rear passenger compartment. The Méhari rides on a chassis shared with the contemporary 2CV that features independent swingarms with inertia dampers and longitudinally mounted spring cylinders serving the front and rear wheel on each side. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.

The front bucket seats wear non-matching black vinyl covers. The color-coordinated rear bench cushion can be stowed in the footwell, and the back support panel can be laid flat to extend the cargo area, which is lined with black carpeting.

A single-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a replacement dashboard panel and later-model instrument cluster consisting of a 140-km/h speedometer, a fuel level gauge, and an array of warning lights. A Sunpro voltmeter has been added along with a Phaostron ammeter, which does not work. The five-digit odometer shows 8k miles, approximately 700 of which have been added under current ownership. The speedometer gear and cable were replaced in 2001, and the total mileage is unknown.
