This 1978 Renault Le Car is one of 2,500 planned examples offered with the “Black Beauty” package, which featured black paint with red accents as well as black vinyl upholstery, an individually numbered dashboard plaque, and 13” alloy wheels. Power comes from a 1,289cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle, and additional equipment includes a canvas sunroof, a rear wiper, a cargo cover, an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette head unit, and front disc brakes. Acquired by the seller in 2014, this Le Car project is now offered at no reserve with spare parts and a California title in the seller’s name.
The Black Beauty edition of the Le Car specified black paint with red accents, and the seller notes evidence of paintwork on the fenders and right quarter panel. The right door pull is broken, and the pull is missing on the left door, which does not fully close. The car is equipped with a flip-back canvas sunroof, and discoloration and wear on the material can be viewed in the gallery along with a cracked taillight lens, dings, paint chips, and deterioration around the car.
Curb marks are visible on the 13” alloy wheels, which are mounted with 145-series Firestone F-560 tires that show cracks in the sidewalls. The car is equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes, which the seller states should be serviced before the car is driven.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a folding rear bench trimmed in black vinyl with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. The dashboard is cracked, worn paint is visible on the doors, and the headliner has deteriorated along the rear edge, which is not secured.
A plaque on the dashboard identifies the car as number 679 of 2,500.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 100-mph speedometer and inoperative gauges for fuel level and alternator output. The five-digit odometer shows 97k miles.
The 1,289cc inline four is equipped with a single carburetor and was factory rated at 60 horsepower. A rust hole is visible in the left inner fender. The car most recently passed a California emissions inspection in June 2024.
Power is sent to the front wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Rust is noted in the floor, which can be viewed in the gallery.
