This Saab 96 shows 59k miles and is now offered at no reserve with an owner’s manual, a workshop manual, partial service records, the removed wheels, and a Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The car was repainted Volkswagen Cyber Green in 2005 and features Hella auxiliary lights, lower bodyside moldings, pop-out rear windows, and chrome bumpers with black rubber overriders as well as dual side mirrors and a Yakima roof rack. The hood was repainted circa 2020.
Silver-finished “soccer ball” 15″ alloy wheels were added under current ownership, and they are mounted with 165/60 Nexen tires with approximately 1,600 miles. Work following the seller’s acquisition included replacing the front-right wheel bearing in December 2018 and replacing the right-side ball joint in April 2020 as well as replacing the front brake pads and flushing the brake fluid in 2022.
The front bucket seats and the rear bench are upholstered in green vinyl. Sound-deadening insulation has been installed below the green carpeting, and amenities include a heated driver’s-side seat, a lockable glovebox, and crank-operated windows. Cracks are present on the lower front seat cushions., and imperfections in the dash vinyl near the glove box can be viewed in the gallery.
The two-spoke steering wheel is joined by a column-mounted shifter and VDO 8k-rpm tachometer, while instrumentation just ahead consists of a 100-mph speedometer and a combination gauge for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, approximately 5k of which were added by the seller. The analog clock mounted to the right of the speedometer is inoperative.
Following engine failure due to a broken crankshaft, a replacement 1.7-liter V4 with remanufactured cylinder heads was installed by OEM Saab and Subaru of Parker, Colorado, in November 2022. The engine is equipped with Pertonix electronic ignition and a Weber carburetor. The carburetor was replaced in December of that same year.
Power is sent to the front wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle with a freewheel. An aftermarket exhaust was installed under prior ownership.
The removed wheels will accompany the car along with an owner’s manual, a workshop manual, and partial service records.
The Colorado title lists the year as 1971 and carries a “Classic” brand.
