Overall, the Mercedes-AMG EQE53 brings plenty to like with its staggering straight-line performance and impressive interior look and feel. Despite its performance orientation, it maintains a nice ride and offers plenty of space for passengers and cargo. However, it’s not perfect and comes with a hefty price tag of $60,000 more than the EQE350 4Matic, with imperfect braking feel, and being hampered dynamically by its weight.
The top-specification offering of Mercedes’s new all-electric alternative to the E-Class, the EQE53, boasts a unique twin electric motor that makes 460kW and 950Nm and is fed from the same 90.56kWh battery pack as the EQE350. It offers impressive performance, with a 0-100km/h dash in just 3.5 seconds, with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package trimming this down to 3.3 seconds.
The interior of the Mercedes-AMG EQE53 is impressive, with diverse good quality materials and plenty of smaller details like colours and texture changes, ambient lighting, nappa leather and ventilated front sports seats. It also offers plenty of tech features, like a 12.8-inch infotainment display, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, head-up display, Burmester-branded 3D sound system, and a comprehensive suite of active safety technology.
The Mercedes-AMG EQE53 offers a boot volume of 430L, which is bigger than an E-Class hybrid, but smaller than a conventional E-Class with a straight internal-combustion motor. It also boasts plenty of space for passengers, with loads of legroom and headroom on offer in the second row.
The car comes with the MBUX operating system, which is highly impressive, offering bucketloads of features and functions without feeling too complex or unapproachable. It also features elements like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with native navigation and digital radio.
While the Mercedes-AMG EQE53 is unrated in the eyes of ANCAP and comes at a hefty $214,900 plus on-road costs, it’s worth considering for those in the market for an all-electric luxury car that offers impressive performance, interior quality, and tech features.
