Iconic British sports car manufacturer Caterham has revealed an electric vehicle version of its famous Seven model, known as the EV Seven. The company has also announced a second electric concept car. The EV Seven has been designed to be suitable for both road and track use, with a drive cycle that allows 20 minutes of track driving, followed by a 15-minute recharge and another 20-minute track session. The car features an electric motor supplied by Swindon Powertrain, capable of producing 179 kW and 250 Nm, and is powered by a 51 kWh battery. Caterham has not revealed the vehicle’s range on a single charge. The company says it does not plan to produce the EV Seven, but will use it as a test bed for future electric powertrain exploration. CEO Bob Laishley noted the car’s development is being executed with a view to bringing an electric vehicle to market “when the future generation of battery technology allows it”. The Caterham EV Seven is set to debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK in July 2021.
