Confirmed: Australia’s 2023 GWM Tank 300 Petrol Price Update

Chinese automobile giant Great Wall Motors (GWM) has launched a petrol-only version of its new GWM Tank 300 off-roader in Australia, alongside its hybrid versions. The petrol Tank 300 model is powered by a 162kW and 380Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, priced at $46,990 and $50,990 drive-away for the Lux and Ultra petrol variants, respectively. This is $9,000 to $10,000 less than the hybrid versions, sharing a 225kW 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with a hybrid system. The petrol versions have an eight-speed automatic transmission and part-time four-wheel-drive system with standard equipment levels largely similar to the hybrid variants.

However, the petrol Tank 300 lacks some of the features present in the hybrid versions. All petrol models miss out on digital radio and front cross-traffic alert technology but retain rear cross-traffic alert features, which are standard in the hybrid models. Furthermore, the Ultra petrol does not offer the auto parking feature highlighted in the Ultra hybrid, along with memory and ‘welcome’ functions in the driver’s seat.

The petrol Tank 300 retains quote figures similar to the hybrid, with 2500kg towing capacity and 224mm ground clearance, but provides better payload conditions. The petrol Tank 300 weighs 225kg less at 2106kg, while the hybrid weighs 2331kg. The gross vehicle mass of the petrol Tank 300 is 173kg lower at 2552kg, offering a 52kg high payload of 446kg compared to the hybrid’s 394kg.

The GWM Tank 300 has been designed in the same vein as the iconic Jeep Wrangler, providing off-road capabilities. The standard features for the Lux variant include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, infotainment touchscreen, and autonomous emergency brakes with forward collision warning. Meanwhile, the Ultra adds features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather seat upholstery, and heated and cooled front seats.

In conclusion, the petrol-only version of the popular GWM Tank 300 off-roader from China has joined the range in Australia, providing off-road enthusiasts with a more affordable option without sacrificing essential features and capabilities.
