No Reserve: Modified 1929 Morgan/GN “Chimera” Race Car

This 1929 Morgan is the result of a 1970s build that saw the mating of a B-type Morgan two-speed chassis with the two-wheel rear-axle assembly from a GN cyclecar. The vehicle was originally fitted with a standard two-seat Morgan Aero body and competed in that configuration at sand, hill climb, rally raid, and circuit racing events throughout the UK from the time of its debut in April 1977 until the occurrence of a rollover at Shelsley Walsh in 1979. That event resulted in the reconfiguration of the vehicle to its current incarnation as a single seater with a re-tubed chassis. Powered by a 1,096cc Blackburne KMC V-twin, the vehicle is finished in green with black accents over green leather and is equipped with a two-speed bevel gearbox, 19″ wire-spoke wheels, drum brakes, a detachable roll bar, an Amal pre-Monobloc carburetor, an electric starter, and dual side pipes. The vehicle was brought to the US in 2001 and returned to the UK circa 2012 before being purchased by the seller and re-imported to the US in 2019. This modified Morgan is now offered at no reserve in California for off-road use only with the seller’s records, a Vintage Sports Car Club of America logbook, a tonneau cover, and a bill of sale.

Black-painted wire-spoke wheels are mounted with 3.50×19″ Avon front and 4.00×19″ Dunlop rear tires. Independent front suspension is provided by Morgan sliding stub axles and coil springs while the rear is handled by a GN solid axle with quarter-elliptical springs and friction shocks. Cable-actuated brakes consist of dual Morgan drums up front as well as a single pre-war Fiat drum out back.

The three-spoke steering wheel equipped with hand controls for throttle, choke, and spark advance fronts an aluminum dash panel housing a 6k-rpm tachometer, a brass magneto on/off switch, and a plunger oil pump assembly with a sight-glass tube. Two foot pedals operate the front brakes and clutch, while the third is a redundant throttle control. Hand levers for the rear axle brake and gear selection are mounted outboard on the right. There is no odometer, therefore true mileage is unknown.
