1999 Toyota Tacoma Review Price
The 4 cylinder engine equipped on it is great on gas and is also very reliable as long as you keep up with routine maintenance. The Tacoma I own is approaching 210,000 miles and it is still going strong. It has not given me any major problems, just the usual things that wear out with time. The Tacoma is a great daily driver. Only down side is seating. The truck I own is an extended cab and it can fit five people legally. Four people fit considably okay if everyone is average sized, but 5 is pushing it. Other than that, great truck. I drive it on a daily basis and I love it!
These are very reliable vehicles and I would definitely not be shy about buying one of this vintage as long as it hasn’t been abused. These trucks are not always easy to work on and the original rear springs were a bit weak but for around $400 a spring shop can fix them up. I have converted mine to a flatbed and added Timbren load support to deal with the increased capacity other than those changes it is stock and I don’t see any need to do any other modifications – great little truck.
Truck is perfect vehicle- SR5 extended cab, 4 wheel drive, auto, no power windows/door locks/cruise, just your basic truck with 3.4L, over 250,000 miles and runs great- original owner.
The V6 uses a timing belt instead of a chain. The I 4 has a chain.
The water pump tends to leak on the V6. I changed the water pump and belt @ 50,000 mi.
Took most of a day. Kit $200 online. Upgraded the water pump gasket so hope to get 90,000 mi.
the schedule says the belt is good for.
It gets 16-17 mpg.
Ride a little busy side to side.
Amazing where it will go in low 4.
